ROAR : THE METAMORPHOSIS

The Metamorphosis by: Franz Kadfka
p.11-21
The Metamorphosis begings witht the main character waking up and discovers that he had been transformed into a bug when he was sleeping. He looked at himself countinusouly and discribed how he looked. His belly was rounded and brown, and he had an enormous amount of legs. At first he thought it was a dream but, in reality it was no dream it was a horrible experience for him. Samsa then kept thinking to himself if maybe he can go to sleep and hellbe human once again, but the problem was he couldnt fall asleep because he is used to sleeping on his right side and since he truned into a bug it was quite hard for him to do so. When he would turn himself he would rock back and forth to the same spot he started. The only thing Samsa could think of was his priorities. Samsa is is traveling salesmen and he that was the same day he had to travel out and he had to be at work no matter how much he didnt like it. He looked at the clock and found out that he was going to be late for work, he was never sick or out of work a day of his life while he worked for that company. So he kept thinking to himself what if he calls in sick will they suspect something. But, he couldnt do that either because he has never been sick so they would have acted suspicious.  His mom kept kalling him , but he was very scared because he didnt know what to say till he jus told her yes mother imokay. HE was making his way of his bed, he was making good progress. But everyone was asking for him but he didnt want to open the dorr he wanted to abandom his family because he was scared of what they would think. His boss was at his house telling him to open the door Samsa toldhim not to waste his time he will go to office and to give the employers his best wishes. His mom was crying atthis point she knew something was wrong and Samsa didnt say anything. His sisterwas crying in her room. Gregor went to sleep again and the Chief Clerk was turning the key to open the door. He wont come out of his room, then we find out that he was in the military in the picturehe was a lietenant. He still wont come out but he countinues to say that he is alright and that he is going to work.

"The boss would surely arrive with the Health-insurance doctor, would complain to his parents about their lazy and would cut short all objections by refering them to the health-insurance doctor,in whose eyes the onlt people that exist at all are perfectly healthy specimens who are work-shy"(Kafka 13).

Samsa turned into a bug, and all his worried about is getting to work about what is he going to d. What if he calls in sick? no way man your a bug youcant work like that in those conditions.Hes a salesman whos going to buy something fromhim if he tries to sell something. He would scare away all the customers. He should be more worried about turning intoa bug, forexample hes unable to move he needs to learn how to move with his body. Also he needs to tell his family ,he might wantto portray the perfect son and worker but he needs to tell them the truth and stop telling them that hes fine because in reality his not , he was turned into a bug. Some questions that I asked were How did he turn into a bug?, Did his family turn into bugs?, and is he having a dream.

ROAR #5: The Devil in the White City

The Devil in the White City by: Erik Larson
p. 320 - the end

While going towars the end of this book the Fair is also ending and everyone in the fair is movin out of Chicago because they have finally been aware that the mass disapeerences of people have been gettin bigger. But on the bright side the Fair ended up raising over 1.5 million dollars to pay of the exposition debt. Holmes was the reason of all the murders they were going to hang him because he was found guilty and he said he killed 2 people but in reality he killed over 200 people because of all the disapperes that have been going on for a while. He was sentenced to be hanged and before he was hung he confesed of all his sins that he did. He killed his children and buried them in the backyard. He imprisoned people then killed them. So all of the mysterious murders during the Fair was all his fault. But he wasnt the only one killing people, on the other hand. Prendergast wanted to run for city council but when he went to go check if he could they told him kno and he got very angry and decided to take it out on the mayor. Towards the end of the fair they had a ceremony in memory of the Mayor as well.

"Grahams also brought to the courtroom the wart Holmes removed from Benjamin Pitezel's corpe and a wooden box containing Pitezel's skull" (Larson 384).

This book overall was a pretty good book, it wasnt what i expected but it made a good impression on me. I knew that it was Holmes behind all the killings it was so ovious because since he was incharge of everyone he had the acess to hide that it was him and he only let women stay in the hotel. Especially when he had to travel to get money he was pretty shaddy comin back to Chicago. But i wonder if he was in the group of the scariest men in Chicago, and if he was how did he enter the group? I enjoyed this book my anticipation rose everytime i read it.

ROAR #4: The Devil in the White City

The Devil in the White City by: Erik Larson
p. 245- 320
Despite of all the due dates of the big fair, the day was finally here, and people from all over the world came to visit the most exordinary event in the United States. In the beginning of the fair Burnham made the opening statements and the event started. It was everything that people expected, a job well done. More than 25 million people attended this event. The fair wasnt all good news peopele were scared to go becuase after the first day their stock went down and that made economic problems for people to participate. A lot of people wanted to attend to look at the exhibits but couldnt because they knowingly didnt want to out themselves through money crisis. In a result the fair didnt make a lot of money. Holmes was a very suspicious man, he only let women stay in the hotel and his waitress had disapeered, but he didnt really pay any mind to it. Holmes wondered if the fair was even going to make a good profit but it was to far to tell. On July 4 people came to come and see the exhibit but they still they didnt make a good profit, this dispointed Holmes. They were several problems hitting the fair, econmic problems, technical diffilculties, and weather made it extremely hard for them to run the fair because on a rainy day the ferris wheel had an accident and ended up coming up in flames and Mr. Burnhams was arrested becuase he was responsible for the fair. SOme people can to fix some of the problems at the fair. The same day of the incident which was July 6, Infanta Eulalia, the youngest sister of spains dead king Alfonso XII and daughter of exiled Queen Isabel II. Newspapers called her the Queen of the fair becuase she was a famous person who came to the fair. The Queen of the fair had such a good time at the fair that in the end she didnt want to leave due to the great attention and treatment she was gettin she was going to leave on wednesday with regret.

"Royalty at best is a troublesome customer for republicans to deal with and royalty of th spanish sort is the most troublesome of all. . . It was their custom to come late and go away early, leaving behind general regret that they had not come still later and gone away still earlier, or, better still perhaps, thst they had not come at all" (Larson 263).

It seems to me that this fair was a bad idea is some ways but it brought some possitivity to Chicago as the same time. Some of the problems that the Fair brought to chicago were the economic problems because the fair didnt really bring a lot of money because the stock was going down for some people so they had to be careful. Secondly, people kept coming up missing and since this big event was going on they didnt pay attention to them. As chicago was in the beginin of the book findin out that someone is missing wasnt a big surprise to those people at the time. Some positive feedbacks were famous poeple came to the Fair which made chicago look really good and they trete them so well that the famous individuals did not want to leave they wanted to leave with regret. This was good because they were giving a good name to Chicago apposed to what other people said about Chicago and scary murderest place.

ROAR #3: The Devil in the White City

The Devil in the White City by: Erik Larson
p. 175 - 245

Holmes continued to construct what the Fair was going to look like and it was coming together but they came up with a new idea, they want to make it possible for the Hotel to be higher than then the eiffel tower. The only problem with making the building taller was how much they had to spend. Jobs started to get cut because of how much they have to spend on the new part of this area of the hotel and they thought that they couldnt meet the deadline of making the building. In order for Holmes to make money he decided to find the cure of alcoholism. He had to do that in order to cure Pitezel and to make it to then sell it. While Holmes was doing his job Burnham stayed in Chicago to keep up with the deadline because if they didnt finish it would be trouble for all people who were hired to make this fair a spectacular event that the U.S has ever seen to display the history of Christopher Columbus.
AS we back away from the fair a little Holmes gets married to a wealthy women and he does it in secret so that no one knew, but he seems to find himself in troublesome places whenever he tries to get involved in such things like that. Millie left her family and lived with Holmes. As Holmes was trying the find the cure he used Emelines body and then she was never seen again and he disposed of her body. More disaperences were happening in the fair and the everyday when the workers would go to work it would rain so they couldnt get much done.

"He spent $25,000 on drawings and additional specifications and used them to recruit a cadre of investors that included two prominent engineers, Robert Hunt, head of a major Chicago firm, Andrew Onderdonk, famous for helping construct the Canadian Pacific Railway" (Larson 179).

This part of the book made me question who Holmes really was. Was he a secret murderer or was he just an architect that was building the World's Fair. Emelines body disapeered and he was the last person with her so he must have used her body as a practice dummy and thats how she bacame a ghost tothe world because no one could find her. Is Holmes really focused on finishing the World Fair because i dnt see him trying too i just see him trynna make money which wasnt really hepling him because it wasnt making money? The eiffel tower is the compotition so why couldnt they decide to make it taller in the beggining so they didnt have to try to make it fit in the end?

ROAR #2: The Devil in the White City

The Devil in the White City by: Erik Larson
p. 69 - 175

As I countinued reading The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson they finally decided that they were going to do the fair in Chicago. Since they were going to do the fair in Chicago they were making sure that the fair was going to be perfect, they decided that whoever was going to design the fair was going to be well skilled. Since France was a perfect, they made it a competition if the fair isnt the best people all over the world were goign to hate whoever built it, but whoever designed the best fair ever was going to become very famous. The architects that agreed on building the masterpiece were McKim, Post, and Peabody. The book goes into their past history and explains how they had arrived where they were at that momment, aggreing whether they were going to build the fair. Ideas were being thrown out into the workplace to see if anyone can come up with anything. Then suddently Holmes said why dont the fair be a hotel. More ideas started coming out afterwards. For example to make sure the Hotel was affortable to people who want to visit Chicago for this big event. They were finally coming to a glance for this fair but it didnt seem big enough for the event which was an impediment. While Holmes was hired to design this fair he realized that they have been an increase on how many people have been missing but, he didnt let that get in his way because he only came to Chicago to become rich and famous. The Fair was coming on to it's highlight at this point.

"Patients stayed in the three-story Livingston Hotel, a red-brick building of simple appealing design, with arched windows and a veranda along the full length of its facade, a fine place to rest between injections of Dr. Leslie Enraught Keely's "Gold cure" ( Larson 161).

In this part of the book it has come to my attention that people in Chicago have become to ust to the disapearences that they have forgotting that it is a huge crime for somebody to kill and be kidanpped. Since a big event is coming into this part of the city they trying to not make it a big deal because they didnt want to make Chicago look bad , do to the people who voted for the fair to be in Chicago. The the weird thing is Chicago in general sounds dangerous and people decided to have this famous fair there. As for Holmes, how can he jus countinue his work withought caring for the other lives that are being taking away. I know money is a big deal in this world but it didn have to go that far when people know about the killings and not say a word.

ROAR: The Devil in the White City

The Devil in the White City by: Erik Larson
p. 3 - 68
As I first started reading The Devil in the White City the setting starts in Chicago where Erik Larson talks negatively of Chicago. He mentions continually that murder and death is not stranger in Chicago. Chicago is seen as a dangerous place because the book explains that it's easy to disappear in Chicago with all the murders. In 1892 the city of Chicago experience about eight hundred violent death. Men shot women, women shot men, and children shot each other, it was filled with cynical and violent individuals. During that same time period France had the best unforgettable expedition, the United States wanted to make something unforgettable too ; they decided that they wanted to celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of Columbus's discovery of the New World by hosting a world's fair. On February 24, 1890 people were voting to decide where the World's Fair was going to take place. The World Fair was either going to be held in Washington D.C, New York, and Chicago. Everyone on that day was waiting outside to find out if Chicago won or not. There was only one guy who did not vote and Chicago was the only city that needed one more vote to be able to host it.

"It was so easy to disappear, so easy to deny knowledge, so very easy in the smoke and din to mask that something dark had taken root. This was Chicago, on the eve of the greatest fair in history" (Larson 12).

As I started reading this book, it had me so interested, I was really impatient and it gives you every detail. It taught me a lot, like the number of deaths, I never knew how dangerous Chicago was back then its so crazy. So far there are no characters but i'm dieing to know who the narrator is. My question is since Chicago is such a scary place and killing is all away why is the book called The Devil in the White city when white is pure and Chicago didn't seem pure and there was already destruction there so the devil couldn't really make a big impact on it. So why is the book The Devil in the White City?

ROAR #4: THE LOVELY BONES

The Lovely Bones by: Alice Sebold
p. 101- 328

As I finished reading the Lovely Bones we are jus discovering that the father has started his own investigation because he feels as if the police isnt really helping the situation at all. So after a while the father senses that her murderer would be Mr. Harvey. So before he starts searching around Mr. Harveys house he calls Len Fenerman about Harvey. Fernerman goes to Mr. Harvey's house and starts askin him questions. Fenerman is told by Harvey the tent is a wedding tent built in memory of his dead wife Leah. Mr. Salmon remembers being told her name was Sophie. He writes down these nameas, a list of the dead. So after a while, Ruth begins walking in the cornfield and Ray joins her. Mr. Salmon visits Ray’s mother, who agrees to let him speak to Ray. He tells her George Harvey killed Susie, but there is no proof. She tells him she would kill Harvey.
Susie makes another apperance in front of Buckley who is her little brother. While that is happening Mr. Harvey starts having disturning dreams about women and children and he begins to feel very guilty and it bothers him throught the whole book. He becomes very paranoid. Lindsey her sister breaks into Mr. Harveys house and finds a sketch of where her sister was killed. While she was coming out of Mr. Harvey's house he saw her and he called the police but decided not to press any charges. But, of corse the police didnt believe Lindsey and they favored Mr. Harvey. Mr. Harvey made himself seem like he was the good guy because of his job. At his job he basically build doll houses. We later find out towards the end of the book that this wasnt the first time he lowered a girl into an area to rap her and kill her. He builds places or things to get girls intersted and makes them come to him like trapping a pray. He has done to more than 12 girls and he has never gotting caught.
Time goes by and then Susie finally desides to just move on because no one is going to find out who killed her. So the family eneded up moving on Lindsey ended up loosing her virginity to Samuel on their way home in a closet, and after he asked her to marry him.

"Heaven is about flathead nails and the soft down of new leaves, wild roller coaster rides and escaped marbles that fall then hang then take you somewhere you could never have imagined in your small-heaven dreams" (Sebold 325).

Finishing this book I look back and tell myself this book wasnt about Sussie it was more about her family and their struggles. I think that because since she died she can't do much because she cant communicate with them at all. Her father has to go through a lot to get over things. He ends up using violence and having breakdowns. The mother ends up going crazy and takes a brake she ends up leaving the house for a while but ends up coming back towards the end. Susie's sister Lindsey works out to get over her anger and sadness. She keeps thing to herself and shuts everything out. But, Samuel ends up getting her back to how she ust to be. Her family struggles throught this whole book. Sussie looks after them but she can't do anything so this book was jus about the family going through hard times and how an old disgusting man would prey on innocent girls , rape them then kill them in the worst ways. Personally i think this book was to personal for me.

ROAR #3 : THE LOVELY BONES

The Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold
 p. 30-100
As I continued reading the Lovely bones the police is discovering a lot since what had happened to Salmon known as Susie. The Police found her blood into the ground where Mr. Harvey made the underground getaway place but, they didn't find her body. They found a lot of her stuff that she had left behind in there like her copy To Kill A Mockingbird, the paper she had written on Orthello, her notes from class, and a love note from Ray Singh. Since Rays letter was found there he became a suspect but he had an alibi. Since he was different that didn't help him. The Police also found her belongings under ground and they finally issued  that someone had done this to her. Her family vent they're feelings differently. The mom gets very dramatic and the father sinks his face into the their dogs fur. Her sister just stops herself from crying and exercises a lot to hide her feelings. While all of this is going on, Susie's murderer Mr. Harvey continues to build doll houses, which is his job and keeps his innocent face.
Also Susie is in heaven which is the best place she has ever been in. Whatever she wants she would have and she had a roommate in heaven. Holly and her hanged out a lot they would see souls leave the humans body from earth.
Susie wants to let her family see her because her father has finally started showin that his enraged feelings. Susie wishes she could break through to her family and on December 23 and she does. Her father goes to his den to clean it and sees all the ships in bottles he had made. He had always allowed Susie to pull the string that opened the sails of the ships when he was finished. He becomes so enraged that he smashes every single model he made. Not knowing how, at that moment, Susie reveals her face in all the shards of glass that lay everywhere. It is only a second, but her father sees her. He runs for Susie’s bedroom and sobs on her bed.

"Gently he would draw the one string that still reached out of the bottle's neck, and, voila, the sails all rose, from simple mast to clipper ship" (Sebold 45).

This quote is very significant because this is the part where she reveals herself to her father. It was a tradition she ust to always pull the string of the boat, but he ended up seeing her. I don't think that was a good idea because that gave him so many emotions and made him run to her room to cry. I know she wanted her family to see her but that might have been to much and knowing that she just passed away.

Roar: THE LOVELY BONES

The Lovely Bones
By: Alice Sebold
p. The beginning - 30

As I started reading The Lovely Bones it first starts of by Susie explaining herself and her death.  Susie is fourteen and she has changed completely. She was turning into a young lady and boys are looking at her more than before. Shes the oldest from the Salmon sisters. She was coming home from school and she wanted to get home quicker so she went through the cornfield. She was focusing on something completely different that she forget to examine her surroundings. She got startled when she seen Mr. Harley. Mr. Harley was her next door neighbor but they never really socialized with him. He was trying to get to know her and  she didn't really feel as comfortable taking to adults. He asked her if she wanted to go see something really cool and she replied that it isnt  good idea because her mother doesn't like when she gets home after dark. Mr. Harley had looked around and said its already dark outside, so just come itwill only take a few seconds. So she went with him. So Mr. Harley got her to go with him to a hiding place he made underground. Susie is surprised and thought that it was cool that he made that she even said that is neato. So he see's that she is becoming more comfortable so he asked her if she wanted a coke and to see if she can take off her parka. She starts to become nervous and he blocks the entrance, at this point she really scared. Susie is fighting him off as much as she can. She cries and cries out but nobody knows where she is and he just forces her to be quiet by stuffing the hat with bells her mother had made her into her mouth.Mr. Harley makes her say that she loves him even though she knows that she is going to die. It's a matter of seconds that he was going to kill her. After that Mr. Harley rapes Susie and after he stabs her to death and cuts her body up into small pieces. When he was ickin up after himself he left her elbow which was found by the dog of the house. The only clue that was left and it had corn on it. Mr. Harley was the only person who owned the cornfield.
Once everyone finds out that she is dead everyone is paying their respects and especiaqlly Mr. Harley which goes to her mother and said I hope they get that sick monster. knowing that he's the evil monster.

"Mr. Harley told her the usual: "I hope they get the Bastard. I'm sorry for your lost." "( Sebold 8).

After reading this i despise that petafile so much, I cant believe he would do such an evil thing to Susie, she was so innocent and how can Susie be so irresponsible. She should have studied her surroundings and knew that being with a complete stranger was a bad idea. Especially if her parents dont really talk to him. Susie now is in heaven and everyone in her school went to see her. She wasn't popular but everyone felt a loss when it came to her death. She should have just went straight home knowing that it's dark already she should have just ran home. I just want to know, Why did Mr. Harley leave that evidence ? , and how did the dog find it when it was under ground?

Fifth ROAR: JANE EYRE

Jane Eyre by: Charlotte Bronte
( 303- the End )

As I continue reading Jane is about to marry Mr. Rochester and there were walking together to the church. While they were walking to the Church together there were two people outside of the church reading the headstones in the churchyard cemetery. When Jane and Mr. Rochester were about to say I do the priest ask if anyone objects please say so or forever hold your peace and one of the strangers objected. Mr. Rochester tries too continue with the wedding but, the stranger goes on and tells the story of how Mr. Rochester is still married to a creole women for fifteen years in Jamaica. They also discover that Mr. Rochester is married to Mr. Mason's sister Bertha. Mr. Rochester tells the truth and tells them yes everything is true. No one knew about his wife because she is mad and he keeps her locked away under the care of Grace Pole. Mr. Rochester takes the group to Thornfield to see Bertha and she tries to strangle him, Jane is mad and copes with her emotions by locking herself in her room and praying to God. After that she fell asleep for a while when she woke up she realized that she wants to leave Thornfield. When she walks out of the room Mr. Rochester is waiting outside the room for her. He asked her for forgiveness and says he never meant to hurt her. Jane forgave him and he asked her another proposal to leave England and live together on the South of France. Jane says no to him because as long Bertha is his wife she cant be noting more to him, he replies by saying he doesn't consider himself married. She thinks to herself and says should I leave the only man who loved me and treated me so kind? , she had a dream and in her dream her mother said to flee temptation so Jane leaves Thornfield that night. she spend the night out because she doesn't have any money and no one would let her sleep in there home except St. John who invites her in and he ask her some questions like what your name and she lied to them and said her name was Jane Elliot.
She stays in the house till she can stand on her own two feet, Rosamond Oliver provides her with a cottage she can stay in. Jane starts teaching but, she doesn't like her job. As nights go by she starts to have nightmares about Mr. Rochester but does not see him. She discovers that her uncle John Eyre has dies and left her 20,000 pounds. She finally tells the truth to St. John and tells him he real name is Jane Eyre. Suddenly he says to her i am your cousin. Jane gets happy to finally have family. Jane decided to died the inheritance with her cousins so they each will get 5,000 pounds. St. John tries to pressure Jane into marrying him but she cant because she still loves Mr. Rochester.
Jane goes to look for Mr. Rochester and when he see's him runs into his arms and finds out what has happened and Bertha set the house on fire Mr. Rochester managed to save the lives of his servants and himself but Bertha threw herself from the roof and the fire was all around her. Rochester lost a hand and went blind. In the end the both marry with witnesses around except for the priest. she writes about her peaceful life with him and they love each other tremendously.

"Reader, I married him. A quiet wedding we had: he and I, the parson and clerk, were alone present. when we got back from church, I went into the kitchen of the manor-house, where Mary was cooking the dinner, and John cleaning the knives, and I said: 'Mary, I have been married to Mr. Rochester this morning" (Bronte 382).

This last part of the book was so breathe taking finding out that Mr. Rochester was married to another women named Bertha and Jane finds out the day of her wedding then Jane running finally leaving and making a living. She then lives with St. John who at the end she realizes that he was her cousin. Her Uncle died and left her money. Then she was pressured by St. John to marry him but she couldn't lie to herself she was still in love with Mr. Rochester. when she saw him she ran into his arms, and they got married with no one there. It works out better when they got married by themselves she didn't have to become stressed about money and didn't have to worry about more disasters escalating. This was a romantic love story and i recommend it to everyone who loves loves stories.

Forth Roar: JANE EYRE

Jane Eyre: Charlotte Bronte
(169- 303)

As we look into the more about Jane Eyre she is very helpful and self-determined but, after her escalating romance with Mr. Rochester she becomes more open to others and to herself so she goes to get her fortune read in the library. The gypsy women seemed to really catch Jane's attention because Jane enters in her trace and it seemed like the Gypsy knew a lot about Jane. The Gypsy told her that jane is very close to happiness, she also told Jane that Rochester was not as rich as it may seem. But the funny thing about this gypsy is that her voice starts to deepen and in reality the Gypsy was Mr. Rochester in disguise. Jane gets mad, and well the real Gypsy arrived he looked kind of frightened because he was afraid that this might have a chance to ruin things for the future with Jane before things even erupt.
That same night Jane was scared because someone had a cry for help, but Mr. Rochester said that it was just a servant who had a nightmare. After that everyone returns to there bed, but Mr. Rochester went to Jane's room and asked her if he can use her help and ask her if she is afraid of blood. He asked her this because Mr. Mason was stabbed in the arm and he asked her to watch over Mr. Mason while he gets help. He asked Mr. Mason and Jane not to talk to each other so all they do is stare at each other. After Mr. Rochester gets help he sends Jane to go get a potion downstairs and then gives it to him. After that Jane and Mr. Rochester have a little chat about what happened. He tells Jane about him marrying Blanche and if she will be his salvation but, before she could answer it he ran of.
Jane seems to be having a lot of dreams about children she believes that having dreams about children is an Omen. She discover that her cousin John Reed has commiteed suicide, her aunt Mrs. Reed had suffered from a stroke, Eliza and Georgiana become nuns. Jane tries to be friends with Mrs. Reed knowing that she is about to die, that cynical aunt wont let them. At midnight Mrs. Reed ends up dieing in her sleep.
Jane and Mr. Rochester have finally talked about this new impediment they have come across and Mr. Rochester agrees to marry Blanche, but then jane opens up to him and tells him she has an undying love for Mr. Rochester, and on the stop he surprises her and asked her to marry him. She accepts and then he kisses her. When they star preparing for the wedding things dont go as planed. Mrs. Fairfax does not support the wedding. Jane feels unsettled and scared because she looks at this as a fairy tale and she isnt ready for all this. Mr. Rochester tells her that she can have anything she wants he will dress her jewels. She has the pre wedding jitters and she writes to her uncle John Eyre and asked him to give her some of the inheritance money so that she can put it towards the wedding and feel less uncomfortable.

"All day yesterday I was very busy, and very happy in my ceaseless bustle; for I am not, as you seem to think, troubled by any haunting fears about the new sphere, etc cetera: I think it a glorious thing to have the hope of living with you, because I love you" ( Bronte  239).

As I reading this part of the book I was stunned of how much Mr. Rochester is interested in Jane. He disguised himself in Gypsy clothing to tell her future funny thing this is he is going to be in her future as  a husband. I think he was just going to marry Blanche just to make Jane jealous and finally confess because breaking up with Blanche was not very hard for him to do at all he just continued on with it and immediately started planing for the wedding. Jane feels like he's drowning her in gifts and she feels uncomfortable because of that because she would want to help him out now.

Rochester was never the favorite of the family he was always an outcast when his father dies he inherited everything to his brother and when his brother dies is when Mr. Rochester inherited everything. One night when Mr. Rochester was in his after dinner mood he tells Jane and Adele to come and see his he gives Adele a gift shes been wanting for a long time and he starts talking to Jane and ask her if she thinks hes handsome she quickly says no and he took he remark and got drunk after that. Then he forces he to stay with him and they shared a sinful momment together. Adele mentions her mother Jane and Mr. Rochester promised to tell Jane about that situation later on. try started a realtionship with eachother and one night asJane was sleeping she smelled something burning and it was in Mr. Rochester Room and she turned out the fire and saved his life. She didnt kno who turned on the fire and it was wasnt Mr. Rochester because he was sleeping. A hard mystery to figure out. She starts developing feeling for Mr. Rochester she knows a lot about him especially his past relationship with Adele mother who he dated but he then found out that she was married. Adele isnt really his daughter but hes raising her to make sure she grows up properly and her mother left her. Jane feels that she wants to be there for him whenever he needed her.

Quote:
"He then said that she was the daughter of a french opera-dancer, Celine Verens, towards whom he had once cherished what he called a grande passion. This passion Celine had professed to return with even superior ardour. He thought himself her idol; ugly as he was: he believed, as he said, that she preffered his 'taille d'athlete to the elegance of the Apollo Belviere" (Bronte 120).

Reaction:
Personally I loved this section of the book because theres love involved, I strongly feel that they will fall deeply in love because of the fact that they shared past experiences and to him it was love at first sight, even though she didnt feel the same way she is developing feelings for him because she found out more about him and she saved his life. Not to mention they shared a night of sins. I think they;re something they been looking for. Life is becoming so much better for Jane and hopefully she and Mr. Rochester will become a couple. My only concern is how Adele will take it?, Does Adele know that he isn't her father? , and Who made the fire appear in Mr. Rochester's room ?

Second Roar: JANE EYRE

Jane Eyre by: Charlotte Bronte
( p. 41-79 )

Summary :
As I countinued reading Jane Eyre, Jane starts settling in her new home The Lowood school and we left off finding out that the Lowood is a charity school for girls. Jane had a jaundiced view on the school. Sometimes they didnt allow the girls to take showers, they arent giving enough food, and are coerced to go to church. Nonetheless, she has Helen to keep her company and at least she has a friend because back in the Reed's household she did not have a friend. Jane enjoyed Helen's company especially Helen's meticulous beliefs. For example Helen strongly believed in loving her enemies especially when Ms. Scratcherd castigated Helen for nothing at all.
After a while Mr. Brocklehurst remebers his aunt telling him that Jane has a tendency of lying which is not true. To pucnish her of that he makes her repeat after him and say in front of the entire school that she is a liar. Everyone was forbidden to talk to her even Helen, but Helen would smile at Jane in the Hallway. Jane wants to give up and breaks out crying but she goes to a teacher Ms. Temple and Jane tells her about her childhood and how she was mistreadted by her Aunt and her children. She realtes to how thats all happening again here at the Lowood school. Ms. Temple believes her so she writed to Mr. Lloyd and tells him to check her story to see if it was true and Jane came out innocent and finally everyone at Lowood knew that Jane was not a liar. Jane felt very happy that her reputation wasnt completely destroyed. Life at Lowood seems to be getting better, during springtime girls at Lowood were being introduced to a diesease called typhus but, Jane did not get exposed to the diesease she spends her time playing with her friend Mary. Helen is sick and is slowly dieing. One night Jane sneeks to see Helen and Helen tells her she is in little pain and that her time is almost up. Jane hugs her the rest of the night and during the night helen dies. This was a sad lost for Jane because Helen always made things better for Jane especially when she arrived to Lowood.
One of the causes of the girls being exposed to this diesease was that the bad treatment that Mr. Brocklehurst gave the girls were one of the causes of typhus. He ended up getting fired and they sent new people in to run the school. Everyone becaame happy because they were being treated very well. Janes decides she wants to move on with her life and shes going to leave the Lowood school but before that Bessie comes and keeps her up to date with what going on in the Reed's household and Georgiana wants to run away with a man she fell in love with. Most importantly Jane fathers brothe John Eyre came to visit Jane seven years ago but could not come to Lowood to see her.

Quote:
"While disease had thus become an inhabitant of Lowood, and death its frequent visitor; while there was gloom and fear within its walls; while its rooms and passages steamed with hospital smells, the drug and the pastille striving vainly to overcome the effluvia of mortality, that bright May shone unclouded over the bold hills and beautiful woodland out of doors" (Bronte 65).

Reaction:
My reaction towards this part of the book is I see a pattern in her life, theres always someone who shows a strong sense of anathema toward Jane, one person who really cares about her and suddently the only person who cares for her dies. For example, Aunt Reed and Mr. Brocklehurst despise and makes Jane;s life miserable. Her Uncle and Helen who tried to make things better for her both ended up passing away and left her living alone in the world. Then a opus turn corrupted the pattern and Ms. Temple and she helped Jane clear her name as being a liar that made people not want to socialize with her. Life is getting better for Jane because her surroundings are finally letting her live her life. Instead of keeping her in a shelter of chaos.

JANE EYRE

Jane Eyre by: Charlotte Bronte
(pg. 5-40)

Summary:
As I began to read Jane Eyre, it tells us about the setting of the novel. It is November and along came a cold winter and a the hardest rain. Jane Eyre lives with her family the Reeds. Jane is an orphan and in the Reed family there are Mrs. Reed who is her aunt, John, Eliza, Georgiana who are her cousins. Mrs. Reed did not want Jane to play with her cousins. John and Jane had conflicts since the beggining. John would always come towards her with violence and Jane feels as if her aunt is blind and death because she never sees him hitting her at least once. John makes fun of Jane because shes an orphan and thinks that the only reason she is here is because her mothers charity. Jane is usually a quiet and calm girl , but since John kept chaffing her she gae in they start fighting. Mrs. Reed uses nepotism when picking who started the fight and always thinks that Jane srted the fight. Afeter they fight Mrs. Reed sends her two servants Miss Abbott and Bessie Lee to lock her up in a room. When Jane goes in the room she looks at herself in the mirror, she starts having flasblack to when her Uncle Reed brought her Gateshead, his house after her parents died. Uncle Reed ordereed his wife to raise Jane and if she were of her own children. In which Jane is not treated very kindly. Jane's thought start playing with her mind and see's the ghost of her Uncle coming to punish Mrs. Reed because she has not done what she promised him. Jane screams because she has seen a ghost and the aunt does nothing because she thoguth she was trying to get out of her punishment. Jane faints because of how scared she is. When she wakes up shes in the care of Mr. Lloyd who is the family's kind apothecary. Jane isnt well and stays in bed the next day as well. Then they suggest to the aunt to send Jane to school where she can find felicity. Jane starts finding some family history.
Jane is going to attend an all girls school Lowood run by a man called Mr. Brocklehurst. But before Jane went to school Bessie tells her stories ans sings her songs. She arrives in school and its a dark and rainy day she gets to know her new land. The next day she meet her classmates and she meets a girl named Helen and Helen tells Jane that the Lowood is a charity school maintained for female orphans. The Reed family made her believe that they were paying for the school and infact they paid nothing to get her there. Jane felt unloved but she was happy she was no where near them.

Quote:
"I was a discord in Gateshead Hall; I was like nobody there; I had nothing in harmony with Mrs. Reed or her children, or her chosen vassalge" (Bronte 12).

Reaction:
My reaction of the novel was that Jane lives a very sad and dreary life. Both her parents died, the only family that loved her died which was Uncle Reed and she has family that is alive that hate her and dont give one bite about her. Before her uncle Reed died he told his Wife Mrs. Reed to take care of Jane like she was her own. Mrs. Reed didnt she treated her badly locking her into rooms and not thinking that she would actually be in trouble after she cries and yells for help in a room. Mrs. Reed contradicts herself because how is she going to be apart of charity which deals with helping people and treat family so badly. That's inhumame and Jane deserves happiness, she hasnt been happy since. As she goes to a new school, she hought her school was a rich school but after having a chat with one of the students she finds out that it is a charity school and she feels very betrade because she thought that finally she was gien something worth being happy. Jane struggles to much in her life. She reminds me of Cinderella a little bit except she isn't considered as a maid in the Reed household because there are serants there already.

That Summer in Sicily by Mardelana De Blasi

That Summer in Sicily (pg 216-283)

As i was reading the last part of the book the book reveals the mysteries of the stories in this book. We finally find out who is the narrator, the narrator is Tosca. Tosca finally realizes that she wants to stay in the palace because she couldnt imagine life withoguth living there. She is a very lazy human being and wants to live easy way. We also find out about the family history and how everyone gotseperated. When her family lived together after her mom died everyone was happy but then her sister got happy and father couldnt provide for both of them so he had to sell Tosca to Leo who lives in the palace. That falls into how everyone in the palace was so generous to her because she was Leo's property. She didnt know any of this was going on at the time she was hapy to be living there with everything she needed. Her father was testing her to see if she would really go live with him. While Malfada is sick she left and Mafalda claimed that she wanted to be with her sister but she left. Mafalda was told that her sister wanted to seperate from her. Tosca was told that if she didnt go thather sister would suffer because her father did not have any money. Tosca stayed in touch through Leo because him and her father would talk constantly and he would go back to Tosca to tell her. Malfada felt betrayed ecause her sister never came back. One day they meet at the bus stop and Tosca thought it was her mother but it was Mafalda she had her mothers looks in everyway. They saw eachother and talked about how they seperated. Mafalda was on a mission to find her father but, in reality she ound out from her fathers secret lover that he had died. Three days pass and Tosca does not hear anything from her sister she starts worry but then she comes to visit her from the other side of town and stalks about all her accomplishents. She has done more than Tosca ever did she got a house and she has a job where she makes her money and provides for herself. Then it ends by Mafalda telling Tosca she can be apart of her life if she wants to be but she isnt going to trust her imediately. Leo ends up dieing so she is free to live her life but chooses to live in the palace for her life.

"I pull Mafalda over to bench that has just been vacated since the autobu has arrived but she pushes me away, reaches up the flat of her hand and strikes my cheek. She strikes me three times before I have the presence to take hold of her arm. She screams, 'Me? Why did I abandon you? Are you sure you remember thins as they really happened, Tosca? Tosca? You left me and you left Papa and..."(Blasi 219).

This quote reveal when Tosca finally meets her sister, and they are so surprised after 15 years of not speking or not seeing eachother there reaction was rather violent. They talked it over and sat on the bench and talked. Mafalda was going to her fathers old secret lover to find out if she has seen him. She asked Tosca if she can go with her but Tosca agreed that she will wait till she comes back.  Three days go on and Mafalda finally comes and spends time with her. This quote represents that the sisters still loves eachother spite the sepration they had. Tosca and Mafalda have been looking for eachother for years and when they dont look for eachother thats when they lay eyes on eachother. Ironically it was meant to be but Mafalda wasnt going to let her  in her life becaus ehse matured quicke and realized that if Tosca seperated it was because she wanted to be away from Mafalda.

That Summer in Sicily Part 4

That Summer in Sicily pg 100-215

Since I been reading the narrator expresses and changes tremendously. I noticed that she gets tired of living a happy lifestyle for a long time. The narrator and Leo are finally an Item, they have good communication but they need to get to know eachother more because the narrator is surprising him more and more each time she does something. For example before she came to the big palace she was poor and had to take care of her sister Malfada, it was a huge hastle for her to handle. She left all of that go, to finally reach what she may call heaven on earth. Starngly she got tired of this lifestyle, she admited that she was happier before when she didn't have much on her plate, even thought the dresses were one of her favorite reason for living in the palace. While sitting down at the dinner table she finally said that she wanted to move out and find her own way throught life, that she had become a completely diffrent person that she is not meant to be which is true. She wasnt meant to be a princess because she wasnt happy becoming that way either. Agata kept trying to change her m mind because she has already become family in that house and letting her run free is jus going to make people in the house miss her and become very sad.
While this is happening in the book, a prince comes by and sits and haves a talk with Cosmica, Tosca, and the narrator because there are so fascinated about how he runs his land.  He talks about how the land is split and how the fields arent being used to their advantage or to his people. Poor hungry people could have more food then they imagine if the Prince would use that part of land to grow crops but he wont. In order for his people to live some turn to murdering people. For example a poor man didn't had no food, or other necessities to feed his family so he turned to a group of people who told him that if you kill that guy we will give you all the ingredients to live. They repeatedly told him to aim for his face when you shot him. Life in Sicily was hard but, not in the palace or should i say birthing clinic the narrator lives is.

"Theirs was an expression of their sicilianness. They place themselves outside of and hence are indifferent to any form of reason or law but their own. There is no state in Sicily. The feckless governing that is metted out of Rome has never breeched the narrow chasm of sea that seperates Sicily from the peninsula. rural sicilians have been living a brigand's life for as long as they're been hungry. there is no state to protect Sicilians. Men have their own state. Perhaps it is the Scylla herself who holds the heads of the state inderwater while sings her siren song. " (Blasi 107)

"But if these men are killers, why didn't they kill the man with the green shirt themselves? Why did they have to find someone like Filiberto to do it for them?" (Blasi 107)

These two quotes were the ones that really caught my attention because in the first quote it's describing what is a Sicilian basically that this is who they are filled with narrow mercenary people who hae to create a life of their own because such governing over there has no use to the people in Sicily. They dont bother to protect the sicilians either which is really sad. In the second quote i wonder to myself if these men are handing of assasination jobs then why are they the ones being called murderers. They're not the ones actually killing anyone , to me they just seem like a decoy to the effect they dont want to get in trouble at all they just want to see innocent people being killed for their own benefit.

That Summer in Sicily Part 3

The Summer in Silicy ( pgs 80-100)

As reading “That Summer is Sicily the narrator finds a new friend called Leo, who looks out for her. Ironically he knows her family so he is willing to pass on information to her. The narrator gets along with her family but she isn’t as close to them. For example, when Leo invites her to have a walk with him it was to tell her that her father came by the birthing clinic; where she lived , to tell him that Mafalda is going to move with her mothers sister. Mafalda is the narrators sister and since her father can’t be around her as much because he works she choose to move with her moms sister instead. Mafalda hasn’t been well and someone needs to be able to take care of her. When the narrator hears about this she becomes very angry inside because she’s realizing that her and her sister are separating slowly.
Later in this portion of the story they go back in time and discuss When king Vittorio nullified the governing power of Mussolini and placed a general called Badoglio in charge. After that Italy was officially safe the war was over. The narrator says she never even knew that the war began ( Blasi, 85).

"That my father had been trying to pawn Mafalda upon one relative or another for a long time. Leo spoke as though he'd forgotten that I'd reconciled to live withought me, too, hurts far more. For the past three years I'd believe ours was only physical separation. Not so now (Blasi 81).

This quote signifies a lot about the father. It seems like the father doesnt want to be involved in any aspect of any of his childrens lives because he keeps handing them to other family members. Mafalda is very ill and instead of the father being there for her he instead sends her off to her mothers sister to be taken care of. but, as well towards the father i thingk he may have internal conflict because maybe when he was younger one of his family members would have done it. He still cares because he lets people know before jus handing his daughters to a person, but maybe when he was younger something happened to him thats why he wont let himself get to attached to his daughters. Another thing seems to me like the narrator is trying to put herself agaisnt her father because she thinks he's the reason for the physical seperation he's put upon both his daughters.

The Summer in Sicily part 2

The Summer in Sicily by: Marlena De Blasi (pg 44-90)

In the book The Summer in Sicily tha narrator still imagines herslef as if she were in a dream. Her sertting is still in that enormous house filled with numerous of people who help run the house. We finally find out that the building is actually a birthing clinic and some os the babies that are born there grow up there as well. The narrator gets fascinated by Tosca which is the woment who is incharged oof the house. The house had a name and it the villa; the narrator spent many nights there and she fell in love with that enviorment. There's always people there and happiness. While the narrator lives in that location the people who live there everyone told her fantasy stories. For example Casimo tells her tales in the garden to fill her head with happiness. Tosca takes tha narrator pooutside and says, "Id like to tell you a story, chou." Tosca is like a motherlike figure to her, she always wants the narrator to feel comforable and filled with felicity. So instead of Cosimo telling her stories Tosca is going to be telling her a couple of stories. We begin Part II of the book and it goes into Tosca's stories that she tells the narrator. Tosca spends a lot of time with the narrator jus like a mother.

"From that day foward I read and wrote and studied like a Jesuit acolyte, all the while retreating father and farther from the frilly surfaces of palace life"(Blasi 77).

This part of the book shows alot of symbolism. in each part of the book Marlena De Blasi tells her setting very vividly. In the book there is a specifici seen where Tosca gets really close to the narrator and starts wanting to tell her stories because she found of that Cosimo t=is telling her stories. Before she stats telling her stories the steers her tea with a beautiful silver spoon which in my opinion represents that she is rich because she lives in a big house and she drinking tea. You can say she was born with a silver spoon.

That Summer in Sicily
A Love Story by: Marlena de Blasi

That Summer in Sicily (pg 1-50)
That summer in Sicily starts of with the narrator who's hallucinating about of she's in a dream or not. "In her dream" she and Fernando walk in a house of workers who are very friendly and greet themselves towards them. They're fascinated of this mansion like filled with gardens, big rooms, and delicious food. The superintendent of the large mansion gladly gave them a room and is a very warming and gentle women. The narrator was very anxious to look around and find out where she was. She was so sure it was a dream she wanted to wake up but she couldn't. She discovered that the home that she was in helped people when there in need. for example when a women who has a baby doesn't have a home she's willing to stay as long as she needs to until she's on her feet. The narrator looks at this place as a place of peacefulness. "The sun is torpid upon us, the scents of the food are glorious, and as I run my hand along the prickly leaves of the yews lining the white gravel path i feel so grateful to be inside this dream of Sicily"(Blasi 11).

"The underwater silence of the gardens, gently penetrated by the women's chants and their laughter, has given way to domestic pandemonium"(Blasi 8).

The writter writes mostly about her description of the seeting, she makes you think your in a diffrent world. There discription is very vivid its like your there. During the exposition she explains who the characters are. In this story there are the narrator, fernando, the superintendent and the indivisuals who work there in the house.
